03/01 - Too much protein - MegDoesKeto
Yesterday I had 104g protein. One of the problems I am running into already is eating more meat for the fat content, and not really thinking about overdoing it on protein. I think getting myself out of the habit of seeing high fat foods like butter as the devil is pretty difficult, and instead of forcing myself to eat more healthy fats, I am eating more meat for its fat content, without considering how much protein I am having. I also found myself eating a bit too much in general - this was in part because I had a friend's birthday meal at Nando's - I wouldn't usually eat as much if I was cooking for myself, especially not as much chicken as I had. I also found myself trying to remedy this by having fatty food in the evening as a snack, but this is not the way! I need to learn that if I slip up by having more meat than I should, I shouldn't try to remedy this by eating more, because then my calories are just too much!
I got a big food shop yesterday with lots of veggies and fatty things, and a few snacky and carby things for my boyfriend. We usually cook together because we live together, but I've found so far that it's easier to still cook together, but just make a few slight alterations so I'm not having as many carbs but he can still maintain his normal diet. For example, I'd have some bacon with eggs and he'd have a bacon sandwich - still easy and quick, but not as much hassle as making completely separate meals. I'm not yet tempted by the carby things like bread and crisps in our kitchen, but I'll have to see how this goes in the 'keto flu' part of the transition that I am anticipating.
This is what I ate yesterday:
Lunch: 2 pork sausages, about a third of a bag of fried spinach and a fried egg (437kcal C-3.8g F-35.4g P-26.1g)
Dinner: Nando's Mango and Lime Thighs and a side salad (607kcal C-6g F-32.2g P-72.8g)
Snacks: A handful of pecans and 60g Lindt 90% dark chocolate (410kcal C-13.7g F-40g P-6g)
Overall this is 1444kcal, 23g carbs, 107g fat and 104g protein. This is 244kcal over my calories target and 35g over my protein target. This doesn't worry me too much as I still managed to keep fat high and carbs low, and it was an irregular eating day for me as I went to a restaurant in the evening, therefore didn't have complete control over what I was eating. This just happened to fall on day 2 of eating keto unfortunately. My aims for the rest of the week are to find new ways to eat fat, get myself out of the habit of not wanting to eat fat, and to eat only as much protein as I need.
